The Derby is a comfortable and versatile shoe. Todd referenced Tricker’s archival designs for his take on this classic, which features a chunky sole and pebble leather upper. The leather is extremely unusual — known as “Olivvia,” it comes from a renowned tannery in Germany. The loafer style, inspired by Indigenous moccasins and fishermen’s slip-ons, dates back to 1930s Norway. It was an instant hit, catching on across Europe and America, where it first came to be known as a “loafer.” In 1934, G.H. Bass designed the Weejun: a loafer with a strip of leather stitched across the saddle of the shoe, featuring a shaped cutout.
